Mike landed his dream job a year ago. He's doing what he loves and works with a great group of people. His employer and coworkers seems very pleased with him, his work ethic, and the quality of his work. He has earned an excellent reputation. He was excited last week when another position opened up and he helped his friend, Anthony, get hired, too. But after only a week, Mike is starting to wonder if he did the right thing by providing such a strong recommendation for Anthony. By the end of the first week, Anthony started coming in a few minutes late, taking extra long breaks and texting his girlfriend throughout the day. Anthony isn't taking his training seriously, and Mike has been covering for him. Mike is disappointed in Anthony's lack of effort and is starting to feel Anthony is abusing their friendship. He is hoping his friend's poor performance doesn't reflect badly on him. Mike has tried to talk to Anthony, but he just laughs it off and teases him for being a "company man." What should Mike do?
I think Mike should talk to his employer because he has more power than Mike does in the job and maybe his employer will intimidate Anthony a little more than Mike does. Anthony might actually listen to what their employer says compared to when Mike says it. Anthony might then realize that he has to actually step up in the workplace. If Anthony then steps up the friendship between Anthony and Mike won't be in trouble I don't think.
ReplyDeleteMike needs to talk to his boss about Anthony. Then have the boss talk to Anthony and see what is going on. Anthony could be ruining this for Mike, and could possibly wreck a friendship over this. Mike needs to make sure Anthony knows how important this job is to him. If Anthony doesn't understand that, I think they shouldn't be "close" friends anymore, just co-workers.
ReplyDeleteMike needs to try at least one more time to try to get Andy to straighten up, even if a fellow coworker could step in and help that would be nice, because he is his friend and he probably doesn't want to ruin things between them by bad talking Andy to the boss. However, Mike can't be a pushover and continue to let these things happen, because it will be on him since he recommended him. Therefore, Mike needs to be prepared to tell the boss about Andy.
ReplyDeleteI think that Mike should tell the truth if Anthony doesn't change. If he doesn't eventually listen then he should let him go and try to keep a good freindship out of work though still.
ReplyDeleteyou need someone to tell anthony what he can and can't do but someone who has more power should do something about it. Mike should stop being a pushover also because thats not helping.
ReplyDeleteI think Mike should speak with Anthony and tell him that they should separate their friendship at work and he should be more serious at work. If he doesn't change his attitude at work Mike should fire him and tell him that their relationship will continue but only out of work.
ReplyDeletemile should tell anthony what he can and cant do. If you have more power you should be able to tell him. If things dont change anthony wont be happy. He needs to stop
