3/25/15 Case Study (50 word min)

Rosa recently issued a reminder to her employees about non-smoking areas.  She reminded them about the dangers of smoking in the warehouse vicinity where highly flammable and combustible materials are stored.  She also reminded them about the small fire that broke out in the warehouse several years ago.  She explained that smoking areas are designated outside the buildings for use during breaks.  For several weeks after the reminder, Justin noticed the smell of cigarette smoke every time he went out to the warehouse.  He also noticed that Tami makes an unusual number of daily trips out to the warehouse area.  He knows she is a smoker but never sees her use the designated smoking areas.  Justin decided to ask Tami why she never used the break area outside.  She told him its too cold out there in the winter and too hot in the summer.  Justin enjoys working with Tami and she is valued employee, but he's concerned about his safety at work.  What should Justin do?

  1. Obviously, Justin needs to talk to Tami and tell her that she is not only putting herself in danger but all of her co-workers. The first option would be telling Tami up front. If Justin doesn't feel comfortable with doing this in person he could decide to do an anonymous note to Tami or talk to the boss about having a professional come in and speak about the dangers of smoking, especially in undesignated areas. Maybe it will convince her to not smoke anymore, because smoking is just all around bad for her health. If that doesn't work Justin should let their boss know to keep everyone safe.

  2. If I were Justin I would inform Rosa about Tami and her problem. She can not be smoking in areas that are not designated for smoking. She is putting herself, her job, and everyone else at risk. The building could catch on fire and everyone is at a high risk then. The company would not look very good then if a building burned down because of a careless employee.

  3. Justin needs to confront them about whats going on. If he doesn't believe them, and thinks they are the ones smoking maybe he should put up cameras. If they really are, they should be let go. He has warned them of the dangers of smoking in that area, and they would be putting themselves, and others in danger smoking there.

Justin needs to tell the managers that he feels that she is breaking the code....If they don't believe him, then they should smell her themselves, because he said she smells like smoke, and maybe they should put up camera's so they can prove things like this are going on when they are not supervising them. Or she needs to step up, and tell them herself, because honestly she is just hurting her co-workers by smoking around them with second hand smoke.

  5. I would confront them about whats going on. And maybe have a security system to see if the are smoking and if they are justin should probably find new people. he has warned them before about it. so they shouldn't smoke

  6. Justin must speak with Tami about the danger of smoking in the warehouse because they could be in danger if she is smoking inside. It's ok if she is a smoker, but she must obey the rules, and if is too hot in summer and too cold in winter is not their fault, so if she wants to smoke she must go to the break area and if she doesn't want to go there she must not smoke.

  7. Justin needs to talk to Tamm and tell her that she needs to use the designated smoking areas not the warehouse. Not the warehouse cause it puts her safety in jeopardy and the lives of her coworkers.

  8. i think justin should tell his employer because it could effect the way the business would run. I also think that should keep a closer eye on tami after that.

  9. Justin should really talk to Tami about smoking inside. It can lead to really bad things happening inside the place. If there was a fire they both could get hurt and possibly even lose a job they had. So he needs to make sure she stays outside.

  10. He should talk to rosa as it is a safety question and no matter what, they had information, they know what's going on and safety is very important. If tami doesn't understand, it i not justin's fault
